Christmas has come early for one local schoolboy after he received a letter from Hollywood movie star Will Smith.

Sixth-class pupil Elijah Odigie was one of a number of youngsters from the area who wrote to people they admired, with Smith the only one to have responded so far.

Smith – the star of films such as Hitch, Independence Day and Men In Black – told Elijah, who attends St Nicholas’ Monastery NS in Dundalk – to keep chasing his dreams.

Anyone who watches Blue Bloods on Sky Atlantic might have noticed a local accent in last night’s episode.

Season 3 episode 19 of the hit show – which stars Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan and Donnie Wahlberg – aired in Ireland last night and featured the voice of Dundalk woman Andrea O’Connor.

Andrea, who hails from Cedarwood Park in Cox’s Demesne, could be heard as a radio dispatcher in a patrol car in the episode.

Andrea has previously worked on TV’s Sex and the City and was also an assistant director for the Sex and the City 2 film in 2010. Prior to that she had worked on other big name blockbusters such as Sweet Home Alabama, Thomas Crown Affair, US Marshals and Vanilla Sky. She has been busy since then too, working with the likes of Angelina Jolie on Salt, Julia Roberts on Eat Pray Love, Matt Damon in The Adjustment Bureau and Will Smith on Men In Black 3.

The 45 year old has also had a hand in many more hit TV shows such as Blue Bloods, Glee and CSI: NY, to name but a few and is a regular visitor home to Dundalk, with a visit pencilled in for next month.
