One of Dundalk’s best known barmen is set to return to the town next week.

Charlie Coyle, better known as Good Time Charlie, has been hired to run the new Mr B’s Disco Bar premises, which opens next Thursday night at 8pm.

Mr B’s Disco Bar is located in the former Good Times Charlies premises in Francis Street and is owned by Pat Belton from Inniskeen.

Most recently operating as The Bar, the premises as undergone a “major revamp” and will initially open from Thursday to Monday.

Charlie initially set up Good Time Charlie’s eight years ago but left the town in recent years.

New disco bar opening in Dundalk

A new disco bar is set to open its doors in Dundalk.

Mr B’s Disco Bar will be located in Francis Street in the venue best known over the years as the Francis Street Inn or, more recently, Good Time Charlies.

The new bar is the brain child of Inniskeen man Pat Belton, who also run’s Pa’s Bar in Bridge Street.

The premises most recently traded as ‘The Bar’, run by Conn Foxx, but has undergone some refurbishment in recent weeks ahead of its planned opening in the next few days.

New stores open but others close in a mixed few weeks on the retail front

There has been mixed news on the retail front in recent days with stores both opening and closing in the area.

A new Mace store opened its doors in Blackrock yesterday while Kieran’s Avenue Pharmacy is set to open shortly on the Avenue Road beside The Gym and the former Joan’s Stores.

There have been casualties too unfortunately. After over 19 years in business, the Brass Rail boutique in Clanbrassil Street closed its doors last Friday.

This follows hot on the heels of other recent closures such as The Bar on Francis Street and the Buy and Sell shop on Clanbrassil Street.

The Bar to host beach party weekend

The Bar in Francis Street will be hosting a beach bank holiday event this weekend.

It got underway last night with a student ball and will continue right through the weekend until Monday night.

All drinks over the course of the weekend are €3.50 so don’t be surprised to see a few people in shirts and shorts no matter what the weather.

Home and Away stars coming to Dundalk

Home and Away stars Nic Westaway and Rhiannon Fish, who play Kyle and April, will be coming to Dundalk just after Christmas.

The pair will be appear at The Bar on Francis Street – formerly Good Time Charlies – on Monday December 30th.

Doors will open on the day at 2pm, followed by a meet and greet at 3pm.

Also appearing at The Bar this weekend is X Factor contestant Giles Potter.

X Factor’s Sam to perform in Dundalk

X Factor finalist Sam Callahan will be performing in Dundalk just after Christmas.

Sam, who will be taking part in the X Factor Live Tour in February, will be performing in The Bar in Francis Street on Saturday December 28th.

Tickets are available from www.ticketstop.ie with a meet and greet taking place from 2pm to 4pm on the day.

The Dirty Harrys take up eight week residency at The Bar

Local band The Dirty Harrys have announced that they are taking up an eight week residency of Saturday night performances at Dundalk’s newest venue, The Bar.

The Bar, located at the former Good Time Charlies premises in Francis Street, opened on Sunday promising a wide range of live music.

The Dirty Harrys, who were founded by Carlingford’s Harry Harrison, will play their first Saturday night performance this coming weekend.

Two new Dundalk venues opening this weekend

For anyone planning a night out this Bank Holiday weekend, it could be worth noting that there are two new venues opening in town.

On Saturday night Studio 8 nite club at the Fairways Hotel will open from 10pm with live music followed by a disco from 12.30am to 2.30am.

The nite club has been completely renovated with a VIP area and cocktail bar amongst the highlights.

Also opening on Sunday is The Bar, which is located at the former Good Time Charlies pub in Francis Street. Up until recently run as Hannigan’s, The Bar will feature a wide range of live music and has also been revamped.

Both ventures are being run by local man Conn Fox.
