People the length and breadth of the country have done little else today other than discuss Brian O’Driscoll’s exclusive from the British and Irish Lions squad for Saturday’s crucial final Test against Australia.

New look Studio 8 to open on August 3rd

The new and revamped Studio 8 Nightclub at the Fairways Hotel will open its doors for the first time on Saturday August 3rd at 10.30pm.

The nightclub has been completely revamped in recent weeks and will feature a new VIP area and cocktail bar, as well as a stage for live bands.

The new venue will be open eight Saturday night and Bank Holiday Sundays.

Admission on Saturday nights is €5 before midnight and €10 after midnight.

Admission on a Bank Holiday Sunday – the next of which falls on August 4th – is €10 all night.

A live band will perform in the club each night from 10.30pm to 12.30am and this will be followed by a DJ until close.

Drinks promotions and specials have also been promised every night.

Protest march in Dundalk this Saturday

A protest march against austerity will take place in Dundalk this Saturday from 1pm.

The gathering will meet at the Fair Green before marching up Clanbrassil Street to the Market Square.

Everyone is invited to attend the event on the day to let their feelings be known about the current state of the economy and the performance of the government.

Mulholland retains Felda 10k title

Stephen Mulholland retained his Felda/Setanta Triathlon Club 10k title on Saturday when he came home in a time of 34:25.

Stephen pipped Gerry O’Connell to the title by 37 seconds, with Jim Gonnelly coming home third.

Una Breen was the first woman home in a time of 45:08.

In total 95 took part in the event with the full results now available on the Felda website here.

New Dundalk club night proves a hit!

A NEW alternative club night got underway in Dundalk on Saturday night.

Audacity features all female DJs, including Stemtrex, Kirckface Killah and Brandnew Secondhand Girl.

Hosted in the Spirit Store, a large crowd showed up for what was a hugely successful first gig.

Preparations are now already underway for the event event – the Lock Up Weekend – which will take place from Friday May 31st to Sunday June 2nd.

This event will feature innovative local acts and DJs with 50 acts lined up to perform on three stages over one weekend.

Local acts lined up to play at the event include 2 Minutes 2 Midnight, Bulls on Parade, Evil Presidentes and The Trampz with further details available on Facebook.
