Local journalists up for prestigious awards

journoLogoTwo local journalists have been shortlisted for prestigious prizes at the forthcoming National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI) awards.

Daniel McDonnell, the chief soccer correspondent with The Irish Independent, has been nominated for the Sports Reporter of the Year prize.

Daniel, who hails from Ardee, made his breakthrough over a decade ago by launching the Orielweb website, which is still hugely popular as a forum for Dundalk FC fans.

Meanwhile, Sandra Mallon of The Irish Daily Mail has been nominated as the Young Journalist of the Year.

The Dunleer woman has previously worked in local newspaper The Dundalk Leader.

Winners will be announced on November 7th.
