Weather alert issued as Dundalk Schoolboys’ League fixtures are cancelled

A status orange weather alert has been issued for the whole of Leinster and Munster from 10am to 3pm today.

Met Éireann are predicting wet and very wind weather with strong gale force easterly winds with mean speeds of 55 to 70km/h and gusts of 85 to 120km/h.

Heavy rain will lead to localised flooding and rain will turn to heavy, thundery showers later.

Already the Dundalk Schoolboys’ League have called off all scheduled fixtures for this weekend with more inclement weather anticipated over the course of the weekend.

Well ain’t that a kick in the head…

oconnellkickLeinster winger David Kearney, who hails from Carlingford, left Thomond Park on a stretcher on Saturday night after receiving a vicious kick in the head from Munster’s Paul O’Connell. David, the younger brother of Irish star Rob, spent the night in hospital but was released on Sunday.

The 23-year-old will miss a few weeks of action as a result of the concussion he picked up from the blow but was quick to reassure his Twitter followers that he was okay on Sunday, saying: “Thanks 2 everybody for their kind msgs of concern! Feeling a lot better today. Grt 2 get the win down in Thomond. Serious support as per usual!”
