Louth GAA Supporters’ Club awards tonight

The Louth GAA Supporters’ Club will host their annual awards night tonight in the Carrickdale Hotel.

Shane Lennon will pick up the Senior Player of the Year award while Shane Callan will collecting the hurling honour.

Also amongst those set to be honoured including Ladies Footballer of the Year, Sandra Lynch, and Hall of Fame winner, Danny Culligan of Dundalk GAels.

The 1978 Leinster Championship-winning U-21 side will also be recognised on the night while the guest speaker will be Kerry legend Jack O’Shea.

Tickets are still available priced €50, with music by The Texas Wild Cats.

Corona Cic Saor to be held in Dundalk again this May

This year’s Corona Cic Saor Championships will once again take place in Dundalk.

The event will be held on Saturday May 3rd in Oriel Park, with a top prize of €5,000.

Registration will open on Saturday April 12th at 11am. The first 20 entrants will pay just €50, with registration after that rising to €75 between Saturday 12th and midnight on Friday April 18th.

It will then go up to €100 between Saturday April 19th and Wednesday April 30th when registration closes.

The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or over that is involved in Gaelic, soccer, rugby etc.

It is a test of accuracy and nerve with Oisin McConville and Jack O’Shea the hosts.

Last year’s event was won by Louth footballer Declan Byrne, from Louth Village.

The All-Ireland Cic Saor Championship will take place at Oriel Park in Dundalk this Saturday.

A prize fund of €5,000 is up for grabs on the day, with Armagh and Kerry legends Oisin McConville and Jack O’Shea hosting.

Louth stars Paddy Keenan, Brian White and Derek Maguire are all set to take part along with former Armagh forward Steven McDonnell – who works in Dundalk – Kerry’s Bryan Sheehan, Derry’s Paddy Bradley, Westmeath’s Dessie Dolan, Dublin’s Dean Rock, Armagh’s Jamie Clarke, Meath’s Paddy O’Rourke and his team-mate Joe Sheridan, whose late illegal goal infamously robbed the Wee County of the Leinster title in 2010.

Admission on the day is €6. The event is being sponsored by Corona Light.

Similar to the Poc Fada, the Cic Saor prize is awarded to the person with the longest kick.
