Dundalk FC and LMFM to host Up for the Cup event next Tuesday

Dundalk FC and LMFM are hosting an Up for the Cup event in the Lilywhite Lounge next Tuesday as part of the build up to the FAI Cup final against Cork City on Sunday November 8th.

The free event is being hosted by Colm Corrigan and will include previous cup winners including David Crawley, Alan O’Neill, Dermot Keely and more. There will also be interviews with former Dundalk FC star and current Dundalk FM commentator John Murphy, LMFM’s Gerry Malone and Philip Quinn of The Irish Daily Mail.

The event will be recorded on the night and broadcast on LMFM on Saturday November 7th.

All are welcome to attend with the event getting underway on the night at 8pm.

A campaign has been launched to paint Dundalk black and white in the build-up to Dundalk FC’s FAI Cup final clash with Cork City in the Aviva Stadium on Sunday November 8th.

The ‘Paint the Town Black & White’ campaign is being run by Dundalk FC in conjunction with Dundalk Tourist Office, Dundalk BIDS, LMFM, The Dundalk Democrat and FAI Cup sponsors The Irish Daily Mail.

They are encouraging local businesses and residents to decorate their premises in the club colours in the build-up to the big game.

There will be prizes for the best decorated business and home.

The best decorated business competition will see the winner receive a year’s worth of free advertising at Oriel Park for the 2016 season and a full page advertisement in The Dundalk Democrat. The winner will be announced on Friday November 6th.

Meanwhile, the best decorated home will receive a cash prize of €250 from The Irish Daily Mail. Anyone interested in entering is asked to send a message to Dundalk FC via Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #DFCPaintTheTown.

Businesses can also share their photos in the same way.

The Irish Daily Mail are distributing 5,000 free copies of the newspaper in Dundalk today.

The paper has a special edition front page, saying compliments of Dundalk FC, which is being delivered to houses around the town.

The Irish Daily Mail is the sponsor of the FAI Cup. Dundalk take on Longford Town in the semi-final of the competition on Friday night at 7.25pm in Oriel Park.

The game is also live on RTÉ Two at 7.25pm.

The sister of murdered Irene White has spoken out in the wake of yesterday’s news that a major breakthrough has been made in the eight-year-old murder investigation.

Anne Delcassian has warned her sister’s killers that “your time is up”.

She made the statement after it emerged in yesterday’s Irish Daily Mail that an Irishwoman living in Australia had contacted gardaí with crucial evidence about the 2005 stabbing at Ice House Hill.

Reacting to the news, Delcassian told The Irish Mirror that she was “delighted” with how things were progressing.

“I would like to say to the killers that time is running out,” she said.

“It would be better to come in and say what you know, rather than running around and hiding. You’re not going to get away with it.”

The Australian-based woman who has come forward with vital new evidence is reported to be an ex-girlfriend of the man suspected of stabbing the 43-year-old mother-of-three to death on April 6th 2005.

Gardaí now plan to arrange for her to be interviewed by police Down Under where she can provide a statement.

The Irish Daily Mail are reporting a major breakthrough in the Irene White murder case.

According to the paper, an Irishwoman living in Australia has contacted gardaí with “crucial evidence” about the stabbing to death of the mother of three in 2005.

The paper reports that an ex-girlfriend of the main suspect has come forward with information that has been described as a “major breakthrough”.

Local journalists up for prestigious awards

journoLogoTwo local journalists have been shortlisted for prestigious prizes at the forthcoming National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI) awards.

Daniel McDonnell, the chief soccer correspondent with The Irish Independent, has been nominated for the Sports Reporter of the Year prize.

Daniel, who hails from Ardee, made his breakthrough over a decade ago by launching the Orielweb website, which is still hugely popular as a forum for Dundalk FC fans.

Meanwhile, Sandra Mallon of The Irish Daily Mail has been nominated as the Young Journalist of the Year.

The Dunleer woman has previously worked in local newspaper The Dundalk Leader.

Winners will be announced on November 7th.
