Organisers of last year’s Santa Run in Dundalk have received official confirmation from the Guinness Book of Records that they set a new world record last November for the world’s largest santa run.

The run from the Redemptorist Church to the Market Square required 4,000 participants to break the record with estimates at the time of up to 6,000 taking part.

The event raised over €50,000 with 18 local charities and organisations benefitting including Men’s Sheds, North Louth Hospice, SNAP, Lordship Children’s Respite Centre and SOSAD.

Well done to all concerned.

In this week’s Dundalk Leader, there’s news of a neck injury suffered by Naomh Moninne hurler Mark McGuinness on the same pitch on the Point Road that referee Malachy Craven had to be stretchered from less than a week earlier. There’s also a report on Roche Emmets’ world record, a chat with the three Louth Escorts who are set for the Rose of Tralee and pictures from the Louth Agricultural Show.

Anyone have the number for the Guinness Book of Records?

KatiieMurphyHas anyone the number for the Guinness Book of Records? Because it appears that one was set in Dundalk yesterday after Katie Murphy completed the “longest walk ever”.

You’ve got to love Dundalk people’s ability to exaggerate. Like the guy in the Marshes yesterday who was overheard saying that there’s nothing worse than having to queue for food when you’re hungover. Yeah, because that’s definitely worse than cancer or something…
