Gerry McCann tribute video posted online

Following the sad news of Dundalk-born actor Gerry McCann’s passing, vStream Media have put together a short tribute video to him on YouTube.

The clip, which lasts just over three minutes, has already attracted 5,000 views and showcases the 47-year-old’s acting talents as he plays a Dublin taxi driver in 1802.

Gerry, who hails from the St Alphonsus Road, went missing last Thursday in the Stillorgan area of Dublin. A body was then discovered washed up on a beach in Dublin on Monday, which was yesterday identified as that of the former Fair City actor.

Commenting on the clip, vStream said: “The vStream Group are extremely saddened by the news of the passing of actor Gerry McCann. We had the honour of working with Gerry on a short period drama for our client Jameson. He played a cheeky Dublin taxi driver from 1802. Gerry had the same mischievous way about him both on-screen and off. He brought laughter and fun to the set every day, to compliment his immense professional talent. For the opportunity to have worked with Gerry, we are eternally grateful. Our thoughts are with his family at this incredibly difficult time. Here are some of his scenes from said film. RIP Gerry, you will be missed.”

The family of Gerry McCann, who had been missing since last Thursday, have confirmed that the body discovered on a beach in Dublin yesterday is that of the popular actor.

The 47-year-old, who hails from the St Alphonsus Road area of Dundalk, has been missing since last Thursday when he was last seen at St John of God’s in Stillorgan.

A search for his whereabouts was launched late last week but was halted last night after Gardaí contacted the former Fair City actor’s family following the discovery of a body washed up on the shore at 11.20am yesterday on Dollymount Strand.

A dental examination was required before the body could be formally identified and unfortunately it has been confirmed as that of Gerry McCann.

His sister Helene O’Cleary thanked people for their support and help on RTE Radio One on Liveline.

She said:  “We want to thank everyone. People are so good. We hear about all the bad but people are just amazing are so, so good.”

Comedian and actor Pat Shortt was praised by Helene.

She said: “I want to thank Pat Shortt, he was particularly good”.

Helene also said that Gerry played guitar and had a “beautiful voice, loved life and had varied interests.”
