Dundalk Dog Rescue urgently seeking volunteers for annual collection on Friday

dundalk-dog-rescueDundalk Dog Rescue are urgently appealing for volunteers to assist them in their annual flag day this Friday.

The charity have “nowhere near enough collectors” and are appealing for anyone available to help out to contact them via their Facebook page, by emailing info@dundalkdogrescue.ie or by calling 087 1854360.

Last year the funds raised from the on street collection paid for three full month’s kennelling. On that occasion there were 40 collectors signed up as opposed to just eight this time.

Any time you can spare would be greatly appreciated.

Special Olympics volunteers being sought for event at the Bush

Volunteers are being sought for a Special Olympics North Leinster Track and Field event in the Bush Post Primary School on Saturday May 16th.

One of the first Special Olympics events to be held in Louth for many years, Special Olympics Leinster are looking to put together a team of people to ensure the event is run to a high standard.

The recruitment of this team will begin with a Volunteer Information Evening on Monday from 7-8.30pm in the Bush.

LGBT Helpline seeking volunteers in Dundalk

The LGBT Helpline are currently recruiting volunteers for their centre in Dundalk.

The LGBT Helpline supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people with anyone interested in helping asked to fill out an application form and email it to info@lgbt.ie

The next round of volunteer training will commence in Dundalk in mid February.

Dates for Dundalk training will be confirmed next week but the training will consist of two full Saturdays and three evenings.

All applicants will be asked to attend for a short interview and volunteers must attend all training dates. The LGBT Helpline only takes volunteers who identify as LGBT.

Once trained, LGBT Helpline volunteers are required to contribute a minimum of five hours service per month for at least once year. If you would like to apply to become a volunteer with the LGBT Helpline email info@lgbt.ie.

Buses organised to Pro Life Campaign vigil in Dublin on Saturday

logo-pro-life-campaign2Local Pro Life Campaign volunteers have organised buses from Louth to this Saturday’s National Vigil For Life, which starts at 3pm in Merrion Square in Dublin.
The pro-life vigil will be an opportunity for people to show their opposition to the Government’s controversial new abortion law, which came into force at the start of 2014. For the first time, an unborn baby can be legally destroyed right up to birth in Irish hospitals, based on the threat of suicide with no evidence base to support this.
A spokesperson said: “Please help restore safety and protection for mothers and babies by standing up for life in Merrion Square, Dublin 2, this Saturday afternoon from 3-4pm.”

Volunteers sought for Giro d’Italia

talkofthetowngiroMarshals and volunteers are now being sought to assist throughout the visit of the Giro d’Italia to Ireland from Friday May 9th to Sunday May 11th.

The race, which will pass through Dundalk and Castlebellingham on May 11th, is one of the biggest events in Ireland this year and over half a million spectators are participated as it makes its way from Belfast to Dublin over the course of three days.

Worklink to host interview skills workshop in Dundalk next week

worklinkDo you want to improve your job interview skills and learn how to present yourself? Worklink are running “Impressive Interview Skills”, a free interview workshop on Wednesday 30th April from 7pm until 9pm in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dundalk.

The workshop will cover interview preparation, preparing for commonly-asked questions and give tips on how to present yourself.

“Impressive Interview Skills” will be delivered by Worklink’s volunteers, who are experienced professionals in the fields of Human Resources and career coaching. Places are limited to unemployed jobseekers and booking is essential.

Worklink is a volunteer-led organisation which aims to help unemployed job-seekers access employment. The local group plan to run a number of events this year, including CV and interview clinics, and the Worklink WorkOut, a six-week programme aimed at getting job-seekers “interview-fit”.

Clean up of Templetown Beach planned for Saturday

The Mourne Cooley Gullion Geotourism group will host a beach clean this Saturday from 11am to 3pm at Templetown Beach.

The event is being held as part of the National Spring Clean campaign and any volunteers would be welcomed on the day.

Pearse Óg seek volunteers for white collar boxing fundraiser

Local hurling club Pearse Óg are seeking volunteers to get involved in their forthcoming white collar boxing fundraiser, The Contender.

The event will take place on Saturday April 19th in the Fairways Hotel with male and female competitors being sought.

As well as helping you to get fit, this is also a fun and enjoyable way of helping out the club.

There are 20 men and women already signed up, with the club looking for 10 more.

Training lasts just six weeks and no boxing experience is required.
