Richie Towell celebrates his strike against Cork City last night

Dundalk moved five points clear at the top of the Premier Division table last night after coming from behind to beat Cork City 2-1 at Turner’s Cross.

Richie Towell was once again the star man for Stephen Kenny’s side as he scored either side of half-time to secure a huge win for the visitors.

Cork had gone in front through a deflected Billy Dennehy strike just after the half hour mark but Towell equalised in first-half stoppage time with a volley high to the roof of the net after the home side failed to deal with a corner kick.

He then secured the win three minutes into the second half by slotting home a penalty after David McMillan had been upended in the area.

Dundalk are next in action on Bank Holiday Monday May 4th when they host Bray Wanderers at Oriel Park.

The RTÉ cameras were also in town yesterday to gauge the build-up to the big game and you can view the report here.

Meanwhile, LMFM have also caught up with the legendary Tom McNulty, who scored the winner in Turner’s Cross in 1991 when Dundalk needed a victory to pip Cork City to the title. You can listen to it here.

Finally, the Irish Examiner has an interview with Dundalk chairman Ciaran Bond about just how far the club have come in the last two years. Check it out here.

UPDATE: Cork City have also held their pre-match press conference with reporters speaking to manager John Caulfield and players John O’Flynn, John Dunleavy and Liam Kearney. You can view it below:

Setanta to screen Louth derby

DundalkCrest2010Setanta Sports have announced that they will broadcast the Louth derby between Drogheda United and Dundalk live from United Park on Friday August 8th.

The game has been moved back to 8pm to facilitate the TV coverage with Stephen Kenny’s side returning to the scene of the venue where they suffered a 4-1 hammering on the opening day of the season.

Dundalk responded to that result by inflicting a 7-0 defeat on Drogheda in Oriel Park back in May and will be hoping for a similar positive result against a side that is now managed by former Cork City boss Damien Richardson.

The Lilywhites will also be live on Setanta Sports this coming Friday night when they travel to face Cork City in Turner’s Cross, in the knowledge that a victory could send them six points clear at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Setanta Sports have confirmed that the top of the table clash between Dundalk and Cork City in Turner’s Cross on Friday August 1st will be screened live on the channel. Kick-off on the night is at 8pm.
