The organisers of the popular Carlingford Oysterpearl event have announced that the competition will not take place this year due to a lack of funding.

They insist they will try to bring back the event in 2015, with last year’s Oysterpearl winner Michelle McGrath set to hold on to her crown for another year.

On a more positive note the Carlingford Oyster Festival in association with Morgan’s Fine Fish will take place from Friday August 8th to Monday August 11th but it will be on a much smaller scale than last year’s event.

Morgan’s and Parkview Provisions in Newry have been praised for their sponsorship of the event, as well as other local businesses who have saved it from also not happening.

This year’s event will be family-orientated with lots of fun things for children do to including a dance workshop, a fun fair, a roaming street magician, balloon modelling, street theatre, an oyster welly hunt, a teddy bear’s picnic, bouncy castles, a colouring competition at the Four Seasons, kayaking in the harbour, traditional street sports, oyster eating and opening competition and much more.

Live music on Saturday will be from the JCB man Seamus Moore with The Enemies performing on the Sunday.
