A garda sergeant suffered a broken ankle following an incident outside Dundalk Garda Station this morning.
According to LMFM, a taxi driver pulled into the car park of the station at The Crescent around 5.30am and told Gardaí a passenger was refusing to get out of the vehicle.
The man then became aggressive when officers asked him to leave the taxi and pulled out what appeared to be a handgun, which he pointed at a garda.
An officer managed to disarm him though before discovering the weapon was a fake.
The man is said to have violently resisted arrest after that and despite pepper spray being used, he charged at the Garda, with a sergeant who attempted to restrain him breaking his right ankle in the struggle.
The sergeant was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment, with his attacker also brought to hospital shortly after being arrested for treatment to a prior head injury.
He remains in Garda custody there this morning.
