For anyone planning a night out this Bank Holiday weekend, it could be worth noting that there are two new venues opening in town.

On Saturday night Studio 8 nite club at the Fairways Hotel will open from 10pm with live music followed by a disco from 12.30am to 2.30am.

The nite club has been completely renovated with a VIP area and cocktail bar amongst the highlights.

Also opening on Sunday is The Bar, which is located at the former Good Time Charlies pub in Francis Street. Up until recently run as Hannigan’s, The Bar will feature a wide range of live music and has also been revamped.

Both ventures are being run by local man Conn Fox.

A new live music venue is set to open in Dundalk in the coming weeks, called The Bar.

The Bar will be run by Conn Foxx, who will shortly reopen the revamped Studio 8 Nite Club at the Fairways Hotel, and will be based at 3 Francis Street – the former home of Good Time Charlies.

Good Time Charlies had converted to Hannigan’s Bar in recent months under the management of Orla Hannigan but this venture looks set to be replaced judging by the new address given for The Bar.

A launch weekend for The Bar is planned in the coming weeks and speaking on the venue’s new Facebook page, Conn said: “So the plan… A nice friendly bar with great service & atmosphere, good music every night with great drink promotions – with weekends filled with LIVE MUSIC!!

A new nightclub is set to open in Dundalk. Or rather, an old one is set to reopen.

Renovation work is currently underway at the old Studio 8 nightclub at the Fairways Hotel. Studio 8 was extremely popular in the 80s and 90s in Dundalk but has been largely idle in recent times, apart from a brief stint in which it opened while Ridley’s was renovated a few years back.

Indeed, since 2010 it has operated as a bingo venue for Riva Leisure, which unfortunately shut its doors in recent weeks.

Now Conn Fox, who has previously worked in the likes of Silence, has taken over the old nightclub and is currently in the process of renovating it.

No date has yet been set for Studio 8’s opening but Conn is on the look out for staff and anyone interested can contact him at connfoxstudio8@yahoo.ie
