Louth not a good place if you’re looking for romance this Valentine’s Day

broken-heartTomorrow might be St Valentine’s Day but Louth is not a good place to be if you’re looking for romance.

That’s according to new analysis from The Irish Daily Mirror which shows that heartbreak is a common occurance in the Wee County.

According to the newspaper, Louth has the third highest number of singletons in the country with 632 people unattached per 1,000 of population.

Only Dublin (656) and Limerick (633) were higher in the list.

According to the analysis, 52% of women in Louth were single – the joint second highest in the country – while 57% of men were unattached – the joint third highest.

Louth also had the second highest divorce or separation rate with 50 people per 1,000 of the population of the county split. Only Wexford and Wicklow (both on 51 per 1,000) had a higher rate of separation or divorce.

It’s never too early to learn that all you need is love so the County Museum in Dundalk will hold a card-making workshop for children on St Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, at 11am.

Children will have the opportunity to see images of Valentine’s cards from years gone by and to make their own cards for that special friend or indeed parent and let them know how much they love them.

Curator Brian Walsh said of the event: “St Valentine’s Day is not all about huge cards, bouquets and boxes of chocolates. The cards of the past may have been smaller but as the children will see from the images they were equally, if not, more beautiful.

“The Children’s Card Workshop is always fun with a fantastic array of cards to show proudly at the end of it.”

A small charge of €1 per child will help cover the cost of stationery and materials. For further information and pre-booking, contact the County Museum, Dundalk at 042 9327056 or email info@dundalkmuseum.ie
