Ulster Dancing Championship returning to Dundalk after 25 years

The Ulster Dancing Championship, also known as Oireachtas Rince Uladh 2014, will return to Dundalk this year after a 25 year absence.

The event will take place over two weekends, later this month and again in November.

The event is supported and funded by Louth County Council together with Marshes Shopping Centre who have kindly come on board as main sponsor.

Dundalk Tourism chairperson Sean Farrell welcomed the news and expects it to have huge tourism potential for the area.

“Together with the obvious social and cultural benefits such an event brings to Dundalk, there are of course the economic benefits, with over 5,000 visitors expected over both the June and November weekends.”

Dundalk Tourism Committee, under the auspices of Dundalk Chamber of Commerce have given a commitment to fully support the Ulster Dancing Championships 2014 so as to ensure it is a success.

Mr Farrell said this was an excellent opportunity for Dundalk to showcase the best the town has have to offer.

On behalf of the Dundalk Tourism Committee, Sean also wished to take the opportunity to offer his gratitude to Sinéad Roche of Dundalk BIDS Tourist Office, who worked tirelessly with An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha and who was pivotal in securing Dundalk as the host town for the championship.

Launch night this Friday for Kehoe’s sponsorship of Dundalk Mavericks

Kehoe’s Bar on Quay Street were recently announced as the new sponsor of local American football side, the Dundalk Mavericks.

This Friday there will be a launch night in Kehoe’s to mark the sponsorship. It gets underway at 8pm and all are welcome to attend.

With less than two weeks to go until the flag drops for the first race of the motor racing season, Crowne Plaza Dundalk has been announced as the title sponsor to the National Formula Vee Championship. This partnership marks Crowne Plaza Dundalk’s continuation of a relationship which began at the start of 2013.

The Formula Vee class races at the Mondello Park, Kirkistown and Bishopscourt motor racing circuits with races being streamed live from the track to all corners of the globe via Mondello.tv.

Formula Vee Ireland also announced a partnership with Finol Oils whose Finol Star of Tomorrow Championship will be run for newcomers to Formula Vee. The winner of this championship will receive a test and race in the 150mph Leastone Formula 1000.

Also returning to Formula Vee Ireland in 2014 is VW Spares who will sponsor the Highest Grid Mover award at each championship round.

County Kildare’s Mondello Park Racing Circuit and County Down’s Kirkistown Racing Circuit will sponsor awards for the Fastest Race Lap at each of their respective tracks.

The first Crowne Plaza National Formula Vee Championship race of the season takes place on April 13th at Mondello Park.

Morgan Fuels take over as Dundalk IT GAA sponsors

Morgan Fuels were last night unveiled as the new sponsor of the Dundalk IT GAA teams.

The company, whose headquarters is located just over the border on the old Dublin Road near Carrickarnon and Meigh, presented Dundalk IT coaches and players with two new kits.

Hugh Morgan of Morgan Fuels, who also owns a number of properties in the Dundalk area, was in attendance on the night. He is also sponsor to the Louth GAA football and hurling teams.
