Special Olympics clubs seek volunteers

Special Olympics Ireland have made a plea for volunteers to get involved with the Special Olympics clubs in the county.

Volunteers are sought for Drogheda, Dundalk and St Therese’s Special Olympics Club, which have over 140 participants involved with them each week.

Dundalk Special Olympics Club train in Blackrock Community Centre on a weekly basis and also in Aura Leisure Centre and Ardee Golf Club. They compete in aquatics, athletics, football and tenpin bowling.

St Therese’s Special Olympics Club train in the Redeemer Centre in Ard Easmuinn and Aura Leisure Centre and compete in aquatics, athletics, badminton, bocce and football.

Bluebird Care to host 5k in aid of Special Olympics

Bluebird Care North East will be hosting a 5k charity run/walk in aid of Special Olympics Ireland in Dundalk on Saturday September 21st at 10am.

Entry to the event is €15 with the race taking place on the old Newry Road.

Refreshments will be served afterwards in Dowdallshill GFC’s St Brigid’s Park.

Cooley Cycle in aid of Special Olympics

This year’s Cooley Cycle Challenge will once again be held in aid of Special Olympics Ireland when it takes place on Saturday September 28th.

There will be two routes for the event of season event, both leaving from Dundalk Stadium. The first is a 70km challenge route which will commence at 12 noon while a 15km family friendly route will get underway at 12.30pm.

To register go to www.specialolympics.ie/cyclechallenge and if you do so before August 30th you will be entered into a competition with a chance to win a €200 voucher for 2Wheels in Sandymount in Dublin.

Entry is €30 per cyclist for the challenge route and €10 per cyclist for the family route. There is also a discounted rate of €15 for an adult and child combination.
