Funeral Mass of Ciaran Casey today

Ciaran Casey RIP

Ciaran Casey RIP

The funeral Mass will take place at noon today in the Holy Family Church of 37-year-old Ciaran Casey, who passed away tragically last Friday.

The married father of one passed away in Beaumont Hospital from what The Irish Daily Star has reported to be a blood clot on his brain.

Casey, a bus driver with Bus Éireann, was well known in local football circles having played for the likes of his native Muirhevnamor and Shamrocks over the years. In more recent times he was best known for playing with Bellurgan Utd – whom he joined in 2000 – and was part of the side that beat Rock Celtic 2-1 in the Tully Bookmakers Challenge Cup the weekend before last.

According to today’s Irish Daily Star, doctors advised Ciaran’s family that he died from a rare, aggressive form of leukaemia which was never diagnosed. The Woodbury Gardens man had complained of a swollen leg following Bellurgan’s match last weekend but it is not known if this triggered his underlying illness.

“Ciaran didn’t even know he was ill in any way,” said a source in today’s Star.

“He played the full game last Sunday. He got a small cut on his leg but he played on and there wasn’t a bother on him.

“He was down at training with his club last Tuesday, though he didn’t take part because his leg was sore.

“But he still expected to be fit to play again at the weekend. When he went to hospital on Thursday, it all happened so quick after that.”

Ciaran is survived by his wife Ciara (nee Morgan), daughter Sarah, parents Thomas and Briege, brothers Aidan, Stephen and Seán, sisters-in-law Fiona and Vanessa, grandmother Nancy, parents-in-law Kevin and Miriam Morgan, as well as a wide circle of other family and friends.

May he Rest In Peace.
