The Dundalk refugee campaign secured two more 40 foot containers at the weekend in which to send aid convoys abroad.

Last week Jenkinson Logistics offered to send a lorry to Calais and Hungary with donations taken in from this area.

Now a company from Maghera have also weighed in behind the Refugee Crisis Appeal with their vehicles set to travel to Kos, Athens and the Greek Islands.

Smurfit Kappa have also donated 850 boxes.

Those who wish to donate can do so during the day at the pop up shop in the Long Walk Shopping Centre or at Dundalk Tourist Office. The Sevens taxi rank in Francis Street will also accept donations daily between 4pm and 10pm.

Dundalk fans not running buses to Derry on Friday due to safety fears

Dundalk FC supporters will have to find alternative means if they want to support their side when they travel to the Brandywell to take on Derry City this Friday.

Margaret and Tony Curtis from Oliver Plunkett Park, who organise buses to the Lilywhites’ away games under the guise of M&T Travel, have confirmed they will not be running a bus to the game, with suppliers Sevens also not willing to travel due to a lack of assurances regarding supporter safety.

This follows an incident at the end of Dundalk’s last visit to Derry back in March when buses were pelted with stones by a group of youths and one fan sustained a nasty gash just below his eye. Both Sevens and Anchor Tours had vehicles damaged in the attack at the start of the season.

That was the second time in as many seasons that Dundalk fans were subjected to such an attacking leaving the Lone Moor Road venue.

The decision not to run a bus came after Derry City refused to guarantee Dundalk fans a safe journey to and from the ground. One option is for a steward escort to be arranged before and after the game.

According to The Derry Journal, Candystripes officials are due to hold talks later today with local community groups in a bid to avoid a repeat of the recent attacks on Lilywhites fans.

Well, not quite, but Sevens Cabs in Francis Street have become the latest local business to go pink for the Giro d’Italia.

The local taxi and bus company have followed in the footsteps of neighbouring premises such as Mint by Baldwins and Riva Brasserie by painting their shop front pink in the build-up to the big race’s face to the town on Sunday May 11th.

The wait pays off for Garth Brooks fans

The long wait for Garth Brooks tickets paid off this morning for those who had camped outside News & Deli in Park Street for the last two days.

Nicola Elder and Trish Conroy, who were first in the queue in Dundalk, emerged with their tickets for the country superstar’s Croke Park concerts shortly after 9am.

While many more bought their tickets in store or online, there will inevitably be a few disappointed with problems reported on ticketmaster.ie by some people.

For those who have their tickets, Sevens – who provided complimentary shelter to those waiting outside News & Deli last night – have announced they are running a bus to the concerts on July 25th, 26th and 27th, priced €12 return. People can book via sevens.ie or email info@sevens.ie

One of Dundalk’s newest coffee shops, Black & White Living, brightened up the day for Garth Brooks fans in Dundalk today by delivering coffee to them as they queued for tickets.

The Coes Road store, run by local businessman Niall Wiseman, delivered a tray of hot beverages to those waiting patiently outside News & Deli in Park Street for tickets to go on sale at 9am tomorrow for the country superstar’s Croke Park gigs on July 25th and 26th.

This act of kindness follows from our news earlier today that Sevens Coaches are set to provide shelter to those in the queue later tonight by providing a complimentary bus for them.

Meanwhile, thanks to Paddy Mac and Dundalk FM for sharing the below pictures with us of the queue in good spirits as they enter the final 14 hours of their wait, which for some began as early as yesterday morning.

Garth Brooks fans currently queuing or planning to queue for tickets at News & Deli in Park Street can look forward to some shelter tonight thanks to Sevens Cabs and Coach Hire.

Frankie McRory of Sevens has confirmed that he will be providing a bus for campers outside the Dundalk Ticketmaster outlet from this evening to provide those waiting patiently for tickets with some shelter.

This is not the first time that Sevens have provided this superb act of generosity, having performed the same gesture when One Direction tickets went on sale last year.

The queue for tickets to Garth Brooks’ concerts in Croke Park on July 25th and 26th began early yesterday morning with Trish Conroy and Nicola Elder the first in the queue.
