O’Hanlon Park Boxing Club given the go ahead for new community boxing club

O’Hanlon Park Boxing Club’s plans to open a new community boxing club in the Long Walk area of Dundalk have moved a step closer after planning permission was granted for the development.

The club have been given the go ahead by Louth County Council for the part change of use of an existing retail outlet/store to a community boxing club.

This would include alterations to the existing elevations, boundary fencing and all associated site works.

The club have been struggling for a proper facility for some time, with their plight highlighted by hotelier John Fitzpatrick in the Secret Millionaire programme in recent years.

Conor and Movecrew complete first European booking

Movecrew, the camera and transport company that was founded by Priorland’s Conor Lally just over a year ago, has just completed its first European booking.

Conor has just returned from his biggest booking to date in the Netherlands, where he was transporting kit for Media Coop, a Dublin-based production company who hired Movecrew to transport all of their grip, lighting, streaming, camera and rigging equipment to Amsterdam by Road.

Conor recently sat down with IFTN to discuss his business and he insists it has been busy.

“It hasn’t been the easiest of times to set up a new service-based company within a sector which is constantly facing budget cuts to independently produced television shows,” he said.

Despite this, Movecrew have proved to their clients that not only is it worthwhile using Movecrew’s services, it is also cost effective and in most cases budget friendly.

Conor says there is “a very good reason for producers and production managers to consider using the service – it simply saves on both time and money”.

Colin Norris, Media Coop spoke on the service, saying: “It was really a no brainer for Media Coop to hire Movecrew for our job in Amsterdam. Not only did we get a reliable secure and cost effective way of transporting our streaming and camera equipment across Europe, we also got crew transport while there and a highly skilled and hard working camera assistant for the shoot.”

The production itself was a rebrand event for global electrical company, Philips. Media Coop provided the six camera live stream on YouTube and edited and delivered two corporate videos on site.

“When Colin asked me if we could provide the transport for them I was delighted, it’s great to see Irish productions trying to keep the business within the country,” said Conor.

Conor has also just recently wrapped on the ever popular Mario Rosenstock show, which airs a Christmas special on RTÉ.

Movecrew not only provided data wrangling and camera assisting but also provided the production with a transport solution for their lighting orders and prop deliveries. Previous to this, Movecrew have been busy on Irish Productions, such as Room to Improve, The Secret Millionaire, Ireland’s Fittest Family & Independent Pictures’ Taxi.

Fitzpatrick takes over as chair of the American Hotel and Lodging Association

Adopted Dundalk man John Fitzpatrick has taken over as chairman of the American Hotel and Lodging Association, which represents 52,529 properties with combined sales of $155 billion.

Mr Fitzpatrick, who came to Dundalk as part of the Secret Millionaire programme two years ago and who remains a frequent visitor to the area, owns two hotels in New York where he has served three terms as chairman of the Hotel Association of New York City.

He also serves on the executive board of the American Ireland Fund and is the incoming chair of the Worldwide Ireland Funds.

The O’Hanlon Park and Hillview Residents’ Association have applied to Dundalk Town Council for planning permission to demolish the existing community centre in the estate and to replace it with a new centre more suitable to their needs.

The proposed new development will be 391sq m in floor area and the overall height of the building will be 7.745 metres.

It will accommodate the local boxing club, amongst others, having gained extensive exposure from featuring on RTÉ’s Secret Millionaire with New York hotelier John Fitzpatrick still fundraising for the area.
