Sinead releases ‘The Farney Army 2’ ahead of Monaghan’s Ulster title defence this Sunday

Local singer/songwriter Sinead McNally has done it again after releasing ‘The Farney Army 2’ ahead of Monaghan’s Ulster final appearance against Donegal this Sunday in Clones.

The Knockbridge woman released the original Farney Army song – based around Nathan Carter’s ‘Wagon Wheel’ last summer and it proved a huge hit as Malachy O’Rourke’s side won a first provincial championship since 1988.

Now Monaghan fans will be hoping Sinead’s re-released and updated version will prove an equally lucky charm.

Sinead, who herself plays GAA for Dowdallshill, recorded ‘The Farney Army 2’ live in McCague’s bar in Scotstown and is set to perform it on the Breakfast Roll show with Sean McCaffrey on Northern Sound in the build-up to Sunday’s final.

Her last effort attracted over 10,000 YouTube hits and

Last year she performed the track at the team’s homecoming in Monaghan town and there could be a repeat performance if the side is successful at the weekend.

Marist schoolteacher aiming for All-Ireland glory

Ellen McCarron celebrates Monaghan's All-Ireland semi-final win over Galway

Ellen McCarron celebrates Monaghan’s All-Ireland semi-final win over Galway

A local schoolteacher will be aiming for All-Ireland glory this weekend when Monaghan take on Cork in the ladies final.

Ellen McCarron, originally from Scotstown, is in her first year teaching at St Mary’s College but while she might be a novice on the teaching front, on the field she is hugely experienced with Sunday set to be her third All-Ireland final.

The two previous occasions have ended in hurt though, both at the hands of Cork, so Ellen is hoping it’s third time lucky at the weekend.

The 23-year-old started in the Marist in June and is teaching science and PE.

If she wins on Sunday surely she could be forgiven for missing work on Monday though.
