Welsh woman elected new director of Samaritans

Wendy Thomas

Wendy Thomas

Welsh woman Wendy Thomas has been appointed as the new director of the Dundalk/Newry branch of the Samaritans.

A native of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales, Wendy spent most of her adult life in London, where she worked in primary education. She eventually became a headteacher and finally an inspector/consultant, before retiring.

Her main interests, outside education, are music, opera, ballet and theatre, both as observer and participant – she was, for many years, a member of the BBC Symphony Chorus.

During this time she was actively involved in a Central London branch of Samaritans, holding the equivalent rank of Deputy Director.

She discovered Rostrevor in 2002 and liked it, and its people so much that she moved there in 2011.

Following this move she joined the local branch of Samaritans as a volunteer.

She moves into her new post as the Samaritans are celebrating their 40th anniversary of establishing a branch in this area.
