Monaghan County Council are seeking a meeting with delegates from Louth County Council regarding the quality of road from Inniskeen to Louth Village.

Fianna Fáil Councillor in Monaghan Padraig McNally made the proposals to meet with Louth County Council, to initiate a cross-county approach to acquire funding for the upgrading of the road.

Cllr McNally told Northern Sound FM the road is ‘sub-standard’, despite it being used quite extensively for people travelling from Carrickmacross to Dundalk.

He says there are a number of dangerous aspects on the road and that it will take a cross-county initiative for progress to be made.

A road in Faughart has been closed this morning after a large quantity of toxic fuel waste was discovered dumped outside the graveyard.

It is understood that up to 2,000 litres of the toxic diesel sludge were dumped there, with a spokesperson for Louth County Council informing LMFM radio that the containers are leaking.

The Gardaí have closed the road while the waste is removed, with motorists advised to take alternative routes.

This is not the first time this year that toxic diesel sludge has been abandoned in Faughart, with a similar incident occurring there on February 1st – St Brigid’s Day.

Toddler tragedy narrowly averted

motherA major tragedy was narrowly avoided in Dundalk yesterday when a young mother just caught her child’s pram after it went flying through the air having struck a piece of broken road.

The startled mum made the above post on Facebook, with a number of her friends heavily critical of the current state of the roads.

Here at Talk of the Town we have removed her name and picture from the post to protect her identity but needless to say this was a definite let-off.

At a time when motor taxes have risen, roads have rarely been in a worse state and it is only a matter of time before they cause a major accident, whether it be for a pedestrian or a motorist.
