A new bingo hall is set to open at the old Sportsbowl on the Racecourse Road, Dundalk.

The venue – which will be known as Let’s Bingo – has been fully fitted out with an opening date set to be revealed soon.

As well as bingo, the venue will also feature a restaurant and pub. It’s opening fittingly comes shortly after the closure of Riva Leisure at the Fairways Hotel. Studio 8 nightclub is set to reopen in its place.

A new nightclub is set to open in Dundalk. Or rather, an old one is set to reopen.

Renovation work is currently underway at the old Studio 8 nightclub at the Fairways Hotel. Studio 8 was extremely popular in the 80s and 90s in Dundalk but has been largely idle in recent times, apart from a brief stint in which it opened while Ridley’s was renovated a few years back.

Indeed, since 2010 it has operated as a bingo venue for Riva Leisure, which unfortunately shut its doors in recent weeks.

Now Conn Fox, who has previously worked in the likes of Silence, has taken over the old nightclub and is currently in the process of renovating it.

No date has yet been set for Studio 8’s opening but Conn is on the look out for staff and anyone interested can contact him at connfoxstudio8@yahoo.ie

Dundalk has suffered another business blow after Riva Leisure closed its doors.

The popular bingo hall, which was located in the old Studio 8 nite club at the Fairways Hotel, had been open daily since 2010.

With a free mini bus taking people to bingo sessions, it proved a popular past-time for people of all ages.

However, the business – which was run by local man Sean Kelly – has now closed. Riva Leisure confirmed this by posting a closed sign on their Facebook page yesterday.
