Dundalk FM to change frequency from next month

Dundalk FM is set to change its frequency to 97.7FM from next month.

The station will no longer broadcast on the 100FM frequency as of Sunday November 1st.

The 100FM frequency has been used since the community radio station got up and running in September 2004 but now they have been requested to move to 97.7FM by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

There will be no effect to the station’s online streaming service available through dundalkfm.com and mobile apps such as ‘TuneIn’.

However, those listening on their radios are advised to retune the channel to 97.7FM at their earliest convenience.

Dundalk FM will be simulcasting on 100FM and their new frequency 97.7FM until the changeover.

Dundalk band The Corrs made their musical comeback after 10 years at yesterday’s Radio 2 Live event in Hyde Park in London.

The band hadn’t performed live together in a decade after taking a career break during which the quartet had eight children between them.

Jim, Caroline, Andrea and Sharon showed they haven’t lost their talent though with a superb performance in front of a huge crowd.

Starting off with an instrumental piece, they performed a number of their top hits including Breathless, Runaway, Dreams, What Can I Do, Radio and Toss The Feathers.

Dundalk FM to host open forum regarding radio drama group

Dundalk FM are holding an open forum next Wednesday to explore the idea of setting up a radio drama group at the station.

The event takes place in the studio at 7pm and all are welcome to attend.

According to projects developer, Peter Carroll, people from with all skill sets – either experienced or unexperienced – are required.

“Radio drama is an area of our broadcasting we would like to explore and are looking for any local Thespians with a penchant for the art to join. We are looking for voice actors, directors and writers to bring drama to Dundalk’s airwaves, no experience required – just enthusiasm!

“On the night we hope to create an open forum for ideas and cultivate a radio drama troupe,” he said.

Numbers listening to local radio in the North East falling

The number of people listening to local radio in the North East is falling, according to the latest JNLR/Ipsos MRBI report into radio listening for the 12 month period October 2012 to September 2013.

The report has found that a total of 81% of people listen to radio during the week in the North East and Midlands area, down 1% on the previous report which covered the period from July 2012 to June 2013.

That figure is below the national figure of 83% with the numbers tuning into national stations rising overall.

More than half (54%) of people in the North East and Midlands listen to national radio stations.

In the Louth/Meath area weekday listenership of local radio stations was 30.1%, a drop of 3.5% from the last report, and 23% at weekends, which was down 2% on the last report.

This compares with a national average of 57% who tune into their local or regional radio stations on an average day.

LMFM have broadcasting licence extended

LMFM has had their broadcasting licence for the Louth/Meath area extended for another ten years by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

Chief Executive of the BAI Michael O’Keeffe wished the local radio station well in continuing its service.

The new contract is effective from August 28th this year and runs until the end of August 2023.

LMFM will celebrate its 24th year in existence this September.
