Punters’ to host charity greyhound derby night this Friday

Punters’ Bar on Park Street will hold a charity greyhound derby night this Friday in aid of the Make A Wish Foundation.

The first race gets underway at 9.30pm. There will be six semi-final races and a final on the night and you can buy your own charity dog for €10 from behind the bar.

If your dog wins a semi-final it goes into the final.

Prize money for the final is €100 for first place, €50 for second, €30 for third and €20 for a beaten finalist.

There will also be light refreshments served on the night, as well as a bookie in house take your bets.

FIFA 15 competition to be held in The Punters

The Punters’ Bar in Park Street will host a FIFA 15 competition on Friday February 27th at 8pm.

On the night FIFA 15 fans can take each other on to determine who is the best at the popular game from EA Sports.

Entry is €15, which includes two complimentary pints.

All are welcome to attend.

Busy few weeks in Dundalk and District Darts League

Players and supporters enjoying one of the recent darts nights in the Stag’s Head

The Dundalk and District Darts League may not have been a feature in the local media over the last few weeks but that’s not because they were on a sebatacle. Instead it was because the players in the league were that busy that keeping readers up with events was a harder job than some would have thought.

The league has reached various milestones within the fixture list, the second round of fixtures has been completed and a number of shocks results were marked down on the cards. The favourites in all three leagues suffered upsets and the standard of darts has continued to improve. Paul Curran for the Punters Sharks emulated the PDC players by producing a 15 darts leg, while Ciaran Crawley of Ferguson’s had a 16 dart leg. Meanwhile, Niall Hinchey from the Commercial Club seems to hit a 180 in every game.

The Divisional Cup semi finals were held at the end of the second round of league fixtures and it was ensured that a neutral venue was to host all semi finals. Kehoes of Quay Street was the host for the Premier League and with the Stags Head having three teams in the semi final, they were definitely going to have one team in the final at least. The final result on the night saw them get two teams into the final with “The Stags” beating the Commercial 1896 team while the Stags Red were just pipped to the post by Stags Black, who had team Captain Andy Mackin to thank for a last leg victory.

The First Division saw last year’s Cup winners Avenue Celtic suffer a heavy defeat to Courtney’s while Harry’s Bar were too strong for the Punters Dragons. These games were all played in the Stags Head.

The Commercial Club was the venue for the Second Division semi finals and it saw Stags White play Castle Bar Knights and yet again a Stag’s Head team came out victorious and in a very hard fought game Johnny Masons came out on top in a ding dong battle against Ferguson’s of Gyles Quay.

The return of Round three of the league saw Jackie Murphy’s gain there first win over Stags Red, while the Commercial Hawks piled the pain onto Fergusons by beating them 4-2.

The Stag’s Head ‘Green Machine’ seems to be getting back on track with a good win over Courtney’s while the Castle Bar recorded there first win after a few weeks of uncharacteristic results.

It is safe to say that all divisions are showing some great results right to the end of the league and plenty of shocks are still in store. With the Andrew McAlester Open Shield and the League Doubles and Singles competitions still to be played there is plenty of scope for success for many players.
