May is finally here and that means that the Giro d’Italia is just over a week away.

The race comes to Dundalk on Sunday May 11th and a number of premises in the town have been going pink to mark the event’s arrival.

The latest to do so is Brubakers in Park Street. The popular night spot has added pink to the front of the building, as well as putting pink flags on its exterior. Meanwhile, Érte hairdressers have also put together a clever pink-themed bike design on their window.

If you spot anymore be sure to send them our way.

This weekend Brubakers have three live bands performing – Shaken Edge on Friday, Santoria on Saturday and Rubix on Sunday. All three acts will be followed by a DJ until late.

Lately we’ve been featuring local businesses who have gone pink for the Giro d’Italia. It’s not just paint jobs that have been done around the town though.

Phone Alarms in Francis Street, for example, have decorated their window with pink flags and an old high nelly bicycle, that was kindly donated by Cuchulainn Cycling Club’s Sean Duffy.

Claire O’Hanlon – who tells us she has been following Talk of the Town all the way from Toronto – sent us in this shot of Sean O’Hanlon (right) of Phone Alarms and his friend Sean Duffy (left), proudly looking at the window display.

Similar efforts have been made by the likes of Christy McGee Insurances in Crowe Street, who also have pink balloons in their window and a doll’s house painted pink in honour of the race coming through Dundalk on Sunday May 11th.

Continuing with our Giro d’Italia theme for the next few weeks, Talk of the Town have updated our Facebook cover photo to encourage more businesses and community groups to get behind the big race.

Yesterday we turned our logo pink in anticipation of the race’s arrival in Dundalk on Sunday May 11th.

It follows on from a number of local businesses, including Riva, Mint by Baldwins and The Spirit Store, turning their premises pink ahead of the event.

Feel free to share the image above as we back the call to paint the town pink ahead of the big race next month.
