Wild Goose Lodge trailer unveiled at Ploughing Championships

The trailer for the Co Louth-based movie Wild Goose Lodge was unveiled at the National Ploughing Championships earlier this week.

The film is based on the true story of an incident in Reaghstown almost 200 years ago. Back in 1816 a group of armed men assembled in a church at midnight and swore a blood oath to avenge the deaths of three of their fellow Ribbonmen.

An arson and murder attack on Wild Goose Lodge that October led to eight occupants being killed, including an infant aged just five months. Eighteen men were executed for the crime, many of them innocent.

Based on a play by Paul Macardle, the film includes a number of locals as extras with Dundalk-based schoolteacher Paul McGee, of St Joseph’s NS in Muirhevnamor, prominent in the trailer.

Starring John Connors (Patrick from Love/Hate), Finbar Furey (singer from The Fureys), Joe Rooney (Fr Damo in Father Ted) and Dave Duffy (Leo Dowling in Fair City), the film is due for release next year.
