Louth forward Ciaran Byrne has been included in the 23 man Irish panel for Saturday’s first test match against Australia at Kingspan Breffni Park.

The Louth Village man, who was named in the International Rules squad for the two matches against the Aussies earlier this month, is set for a career Down Under in the New Year when he joins up with Carlton. His soon-to-be new team-mate, Zach Tuohy of Laois, has also been selected by manager Paul Earley.

Dundalk IT student Paddy O’Rourke, from Meath, is also included in the panel for Saturday’s game.

Louth forward Ciaran Byrne has been named in the provisional Ireland panel for the upcoming International Rules series against Australia.

The Louth Village teenager burst into the Wee County setup this year, scoring a goal in the championship against Antrim.

Since then he has earned a two-year contract with AFL side Carlton, which commences in the New Year.

Before all that though he will have a chance to become Louth’s first International Rules player after being named in Paul Earley’s provisional panel for the October 19th clash at Breffni Park and the October 26th clash at Croke Park.

Byrne will be joined on the panel by his future Carlton clubmate, Zach Tuohy from Laois, who is the only AFL-based player in the 29-man squad.

Also included in the panel is Meath’s Paddy O’Rourke, who is currently attending Dundalk IT.
