Dundalk Schools’ bid for Leinster Colleges glory was ended by Newbridge Patrician School at the Ramparts earlier today on a 1-10 to 0-11 scoreline.
The local side got off to a bad start in their quarter-final tie as the visitors opened with a goal and two points inside the opening five minutes before Dundalk finally got off the mark through Tadgh McEneaney in the eighth minute.
A missed goal chance and five wides were then to prove costly as the Kildare school went off 1-6 to 0-4 ahead at the break.
Within nine minutes of the second half Newbridge had extended their lead to six points but despite a brave late Dundalk fightback, which seen them close the deficit to two, they could not find what was needed to take them into the last four.
The starting 15 on the day was Fergal Sheeky (Dundalk Young Irelands); Hugh Osbourne (Naomh Fionnbarra), Dan Rice (St Patrick’s), Jack McGailey (Dowdallshill); Niall Craven (Geraldines), Kevin Carr (Newtown Blues), Sean Matthews (Sean O’Mahony’s); Matt Corcoran (Geraldines), Alan Dunne (St Brides); Stephen Coleman (Clan na Gael), Adam O’Connor (St Joseph’s), Colin O’Connor (De La Salle); Sean Marry (St Brides), Tadgh McEneaney (Kilkerley Emmets), Stephen McCooey (St Mochta’s).
