Tonight’s TV3 programme to focus on Moorehall Lodge

A programme focusing on the staff, residents and families at Moorehall Lodge in Ardee will air on TV3 at 9pm tonight.

‘Home from Home’ is a one hour documentary which will show how Moorehall has broken away from traditional nursing home care and abolished any signs of institutionalism such as drug trollies, name tags and staff uniforms.

The programme will speak to Harry Boland and Geraldine Farrell who explain how their respective spouses Monica and Jimmy came to reside in Moorehall after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Body of 30-year-old recovered following Ardee blaze

The body of a 30-year-old man has been recovered following a major fire at Finlay’s Funeral Home in Ardee yesterday evening.

Gardaí have named the victim as Ramunas Sinica, a Lithuanian national, who lived on William Street in Ardee. Mr Sinica, who worked at Finlay’s Coffin and Casket Services in Ardee, is believed to have become trapped after the fire broke out.

The fire broke out at around 5pm on Tierney Street with firefighters from Ardee, Dunleer and Dundalk battling the blaze for several hours.

It became apparent that someone was unaccounted for soon after the blaze started.

Gardaí believe the fire started accidentally.

Residents of nearby Moorehall Lodge Nursing Home had been evacuated from the main nursing home and moved to a safer location within the retirement complex during the blaze.

Tierney Street has reopened to traffic this morning.

One person unaccounted for as emergency services battle Ardee fire

One person is so far unaccounted for as emergency services deal with a major fire at the rear of Finlay’s Funeral Home in Ardee.

Tierney Street is blocked as a result of the incident with visibility majorly affected as a result. It is believed the fire started around 5.45pm.

Ardee, Dunleer and Dundalk firefighters are at the scene along with a number of ambulances. Gardaí from Ardee and Dundalk have cordoned off the area.

Residents of nearby Moorehall Lodge Nursing Home have been evacuated from the main nursing home and moved to a safer location within the retirement complex.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
