The Miss Ireland grand final takes place this Saturday in the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin with Miss Louth Fionnuala Short one of the favourites to land the coveted title according to local bookmakers Boylesports.

The Hackballscross girl is the 5/1 fourth favourite to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Holly Carpenter, Sarah Morrissey, Andrea Roche, Pamela Flood, Amanda Brunker and Rosanna Davison, who went on to win the Miss World title in 2003, when the winner is announced on Saturday.

The joint favourites for the prize are Miss Show Dublin Andrea Rooney and Miss Carlow Fiona Foley (both 7/2) with Miss Dress Bar Rebecca O’Donovan the third favourite (4/1).

Meanwhile, the other Dundalk girl set to take part in the competition, Lisa Casey from Ard Easmuinn, is ranked as a 33/1 outsider. She will be representing Armagh in the competition having finished runner-up in the Miss Louth contest recently.

Miss Clare Kate McGlennon – a midwifery student in Dundalk IT – is also in the running at 14/1.

Former Dundalk IT head of nursing appointed new Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health

 

Dr Siobhan O’Halloran

Dr Siobhan O’Halloran has been appointed as Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health.

Dr O’Halloran is the former Head of the School of Nursing, Midwifery, Health Studies and Applied Science at Dundalk IT, where she was based from 2004-2006.

Dr O’Halloran’s new job will be ensuring that the role of nursing and midwifery is represented at the highest level in terms of policy making for the health service.

Dundalk IT student in running to become Miss Irish Sun

A Dundalk IT student is in the running to be browned the new Miss Irish Sun 2013.

Kate McGlennon, from Co Clare, is currently studying midwifery in the area.
She is one of six finalists for the coveted title, which will be decided by text votes. Voting is currently ongoing and closes on Wednesday week, June 19^th.

The 19-year-old revealed she fell in love with modeling after entering the Miss Clare competition and would love to pursue her dream by becoming Miss Irish Sun and going on to represent Ireland at the Miss Universe contest.

Kate said: ““I have been bitten by the bug and would dearly love to go one step further and pursue my dream.

“I am not with any modelling agency and this is my first year trying these competitions. I believe I would make a good Miss Irish Sun because I have a very outgoing bubbly personality, a great sense of fun and I am extremely hard working at everything I do.”
