The desperation for work in the area has been highlighted by Belles Tea Rooms, who were advertising for a handful of positions recently.

Before Christmas, the Blackrock-based business – run by Mark and Michelle McCumiskey – announced they would be opening a second outlet in Park Street in the New Year.

They recently advertised a number of positions in the local press and online and received a whopping 287 applications as of Friday evening.

Belles hope to get back to applicants in the next few days and, from their point of view, should have no problem filling the various roles advertised. However, it shows how desperate people are for work in the area when so many have applied for jobs in a relatively small business.
