Dundalk wastewater treatment plant not meeting EU standards

EPA_logoDundalk wastewater treatment plant was one of several nationwide which failed the Environmental Protection Agency’s wastewater nutrient quality and sampling standards in 2012.

The new figures also show that the local plant failed in its obligations to reduce phosphorus and nitrogen emissions into the water.

The EPA’s Urban Waste Water Report report found that similar problems were occurring in Greater Dublin, Cork City, Killybegs, Navan, Cavan, Roscrea and Carrigtwohill. Dundalk was on of 44 plants in large urban areas that was not complying with EU standards.

The EPA said that better management was required from these plants but stressed it hoped this would come from the newly-formed Irish Water.

Former Dundalk boss Connor leads Killybegs to Donegal SFC final

Dundalk FC unveil new manager

Sean Connor might not have been the success everyone had hoped to be as Dundalk FC manager.

However, the former Lilywhites boss is hoping to be celebrating sporting success of a different kind on Sunday when he leads Killybegs into the Donegal SFC final against Glenswilly.

Better known in football circles for having managed Sligo Rovers, Bohemians, Dundalk and Galway United, Connor has a GAA background having won a MacRory Cup medal in 1986 and an Antrim SFC medal with St John’s in the same year.

Connor has been acting as coach for manager Martin Boyle this year and told The Dundalk Democrat that the experience has been “enjoyable”.

Despite managing throughout the country and even in Zimbabwe for a spell, Connor has lived in Killybegs for the past five years and has trained the team on-and-off since 2007.
