Pope visits Dundalk

Rugby legend Brent Pope was in Dundalk today to promote his new shirt collection.

The RTÉ pundit called into Tony McDonnell Menswear in Earl Street where he posed for a picture with Jim McDonnell and Darren Guest.

You can expect to see Pope’s collection on shelves in Tony McDonnell’s in the weeks ahead.

The store is popular with rugby stars, with Rob and Dave Kearney regular customers along with their Leinster and Irish team-mate Fergus McFadden.

DVD released on Louth 1957 team

A new DVD has been put together commemorating the Louth 1957 All-Ireland team.

The new release, which also features interviews with greats from St Mary’s GFC, was put together by the Ardee-based club.

It features recorded interviews with the likes of Patsy Coleman, Kevin Beahan, Jim Judge, Jim McDonnell, Dan O’Neill, Aiden Magennis, Jim McArdle, Alfie Monk, Pat Markey, Jackie Reynolds, Paddy Beahan, Johnny Ross and Jim Roe.

Sean Boyle also reflects on 15 golden years from 1938 to 1953, while there is also video recordings of the 1957 and 1950 All-Ireland finals.

Blackthorn Shoes are back on sale in Dundalk, 12 years on from the company’s closure in 2001.

The iconic brand was established by the Connolly family in 1970 and was a major employer in the town for a number of years

The Blackthorn range is now produced in Italy using only top quality materials.

Fear not though, it’s not Leinster stars Rob or David. Instead, they were just groomsmen for older brother Robert, who got hitched at the weekend.

Silver award for Paddy

Congratulations to local photographer Paddy Clarke who recently picked up a silver award from the IPPA for this superb shot of Jim McDonnell of Tony McDonnell Menswear getting a shave from Billy Lawless of Lawless’ Barbers in Park Street on the morning of his wedding.

Paddy, who has his studio in Jocelyn Street, also picked up three bronze awards from the IPPA.

Congratulations to local businessman Jim McDonnell of Tony McDonnell Menswear in Earl Street, who tied the knot with his partner Ana on Thursday.

The couple had a night to remember in Ballymascanlon House Hotel.
