Dundalk woman Leoni Walsh has been named locally as the woman killed in a fatal road traffic collision at Platin outside Drogheda yesterday morning.

The accident happened on the Duleek to Drogheda Road at around 6am on Thursday morning, with 27-year-old Leoni – originally from Drive Two in Muirhevnamor – being pronounced dead at the scene after the Toyota Avensis she was travelling in crashed head on with a lorry carrying 30 tonnes of steel that went through the ditch and ended up in the yard of Irish Cement.

There were three other people travelling in the same car as the victim.

One of the female occupants, also from Dundalk, is in a serious condition in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda while the two others have injuries which are described as non-life threatening.

The male truck driver was uninjured in the collision.

Nicknamed ‘OD’, Leoni, who was a passenger at the time of the accident, was a hugely popular member of the local community who was well known for working in the Adelphi Jade restaurant.

No funeral details have as yet been made known. Sympathy is extended to her family and friends. May she Rest In Peace.
