RTÉ’s Operation Transformation got underway this week with Dunleer man Mark McArdle a leader.

The 44-year-old – who weighs 21st 11.5lbs – works locally with Intact Software and to mark his involvement in the show, they have vowed to sponsor him every bit of the way.

The company have vowed that for each 1lb Mark loses over the course of eight weeks, they will donate €150 to Mark’s chosen charity of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland (up to a maximum of €5,000).

For those who have seen Mark on TV this week and want to wish him well they can meet him at the ‘Know Your Numbers’ event in Dundalk tomorrow (Saturday). It takes place in Leavy’s Chemist in the Long Walk Shopping Centre from 10am to 12 noon and will give people the chance to get their weight and waist measurements taken free of charge.

Intact hoping to combine three units at Blackthorn Business Park

They have applied to Louth County Council for planning permission to knock units 13, 14 and 15 into one unit.

The council are due to make a decision on the matter by October 30th.

Dundalk Chamber of Commerce are set to hold an entertaining two day event this September to find the town’s ultimate company team.

The Dundalk Company Challenge 2014 will take place on Friday September 12th and Saturday September 13th.

The event will see 20 of the area’s biggest employers go head to head in a range of different events, all of which will take place at Oriel Park and in the Oriel Active centre.

Amongst the events the companies will compete in include a table quiz, indoor football, tug-o-war, relay races, obstacle courses and more.

The companies who will compete include Applegreen, Servisource Recruitment, Pelican Promotions, PayPal, Matthews Coach Hire, Boylesports, Aura Leisure Centre, Irish Life, Louth Trades Network, Louth County Council, Crowne Plaza Hotel, eBay, the Department of Social Protection, Suretank, Prometric, FPM Chartered Accountants, Heinz, Horseware, Hydroscand Ireland and Intact Software.
