The Peninsula Ploughing and Field Day will take place at Castlecarra in Riverstown on Sunday August 23rd.

Activities on the dy include vintage tractor ploughing, threshing mills, a display of vintage machinery, amusements for children, the roasting of a pig on the spit, a fashion show, a dog show, a Queen of the Plough competition and much more.

A monster raffle with a top prize of €1,500 will also be held with music on the day from Hugo Duncan and Mike Denver amongst others.

Tickets for the event are priced at €10 with all proceeds going towards the Maria Goretti Foundation in Lordship.

The Peninsula Ploughing and Field Day will take place in Cooley this Sunday.

As well as vintage tractor ploughing, horse ploughing, threshing mills and entertainment for kids, there will also be performances from Hugo Duncan, Philomena Begley and Richie Kavanagh.

All are welcome to attend on the day with all proceeds raised going towards the Maria Goretti Foundation in Lordship.

Keeping It Country night set for The Fairways Hotel next week

The Fairways Hotel will host a ‘Keeping It Country’ concert on Tuesday night.

The event will see a range of top performers take to the stage, including Declan Nerney, Johnny Brady, Jim Devine, Hugo Duncan and more.

Doors on the night open at 7pm, with the show getting underway at 8pm.

Admission is €20 with tickets available from the hotel’s reception or at the door on the night.

Nathan Carter added to bill for Carlingford Oyster Festival

Nathan Carter has been added to the bill as a late addition to next weekend’s Carlingford Oyster Festival.

Nathan, who performed in Dundalk’s Market Square earlier in the summer, is performing a meet and greet in the village on Friday August 9th with local business Ma Bakers set to present him with a special Wagon Wheel smoked oyster dish named after his recent smash hit song.

Good music and good food are on the agenda for the festival, which is happening from Thursday 8th through to Monday 12th August and promises to entertain every member of the family with its programme full of new and traditional activities.

Other stars to perform on the medieval streets over the weekend are singer/ BBC Radio presenter Hugo Duncan and everyone’s local favourites – the Long Riders, Henry Mac and many more.

Chefs from Carlingford’s awarding winning restaurants will be on duty on the streets of the gastronomic destination, offering samplings of delicious seafood chowders and mouth watering fishy dishes with the children being catered for by Minnie and Mickey Mouse at the Teddy Bears picnic  the playground.

Lots of action is also happening in Carlingford harbour with the World Crab Fishing competition and free kayaking/ fun water activities sponsored by Carlingford Adventure Centre.  The picturesque coastline will be dotted with bright wellies as children search for the hidden treasures under seaweed, stones and mud at the Welly Oyster Pearl hunt.

Fresh and famous Carlingford Oysters are guaranteed over the five days amidst the colourful market stalls lining the streets of the medieval village where you are likely to meet the occasional fire eater, stilt walker or magician!

The good music will continue in the evening with lively festival entertainment in the pubs and in The Four Seasons Hotel where the 2013 Morgans Fine Fish Oyster Peal will be crowned on Sunday night.  The very competitive Oyster Opening competition which will also be taking place when local chefs and oyster farmers battle it out with their knives followed by live music til late.
