Glenmuir star Ebuka earns trip to Celtic Soccer Academy

Glenmuir United Football Club are delighted to announce that U-13 player Ebuka Kwelele has been selected by Celtic Soccer Academy Coaches to attend Glasgow during the October mid-term break for week long training sessions with Celtic Youth academy.

This is an all-expenses paid opportunity by Celtic and is viewed as an extension of the initial opportunity presented to players that have been selected.

Ebuka was selected after attending an elite player opportunity academy camp in Dublin three weeks ago along with other participating clubs. Ebuka also attended the October Soccer Camp held at Glenmuir Park and also travelled to Glasgow with the Glenmuir team for a tour and coaching week last April.

Celtic Soccer Academy International Manager Tony Massie expressed huge thanks to all Glenmuir FC players for taking part and emphasised on their tremendous attitude, appetite to play the game and desire to learn.

All players present represented their club, family and themselves extremely well. The coaches commented on how hungry many of the players in their groups were to find out more; specifics about their positions and technical information to help them improve.

He hopes that every player took something away from the weekend, from the lecture theatre activity, to taking on board the information relayed to them as a group and as an individual on the field by their coach.

With the same kind of application to their game and working hard on the things they were taught, hopefully we will see more players from the same event next year over at Celtic to show their capabilities.

Such is the interest in Glenmuir’s partnership with Glasgow Celtic, Glenmuir United Football Club have announced that from next season onwards the club are to hold a player registration day for age groups at U-10 to U-18, a date will be announced very soon. This is due to the demand of players wanting to join the club and is a reflection of the very successful running of the club and coaching structure which has been developed over the past number of years.

Three other players were also selected from Partner Clubs to travel to Glasgow in October, two players from Pike Rovers (Limerick) and one player from St. Joseph’s (Dublin).

All at Glenmuir United Football Club would like to wish Ebuka and the other three lads all the best in the coming months!

Glenmuir’s Celtic link-up to benefit coaches and players alike

glenmuirecrestGlenmuir United’s link with Glasgow Celtic, which was announced at the weekend, has given the club exclusive access to the Scottish champions’ academy and development coaches for coach and player education. The relationship with Glasgow Celtic is in its infancy but will grow each season and the Hoey’s Lane club have plans for more exciting programs in the future.

Talks between the clubs are at the next level with Glasgow Celtic’s Soccer Academy manager Mr Willie McNab, who recently spoken to Glenmuir United’s club representatives Mark Sheils (Club Secretary) and Gary Rogers Committee member.

According to Mr Sheils, the link-up will benefit future generations of players at the club.

“Mr Mc Nab was very impressed with the club’s enthusiasm to revitalise grassroots football by constructing and having the best soccer facilities and, in turn, developing youth players in the right way,” he said.

“Glenmuir are striving to implement better coaching for all its coaches and with this partnership at Celtic we hope to further educate both the players and coaches at the club. Celtic will provide the club with session plans and drills for all the coaches and regularly conduct coaching seminars and programmes.

“The key to success of these seminars and programmes will be participation and education. The main objective of the programmes is to make a difference to young footballers across the north east and the promotion for positive change at the under age level.

“At Glenmuir FC we place huge importance on our community work and in this new partnership it will be a major part of that. The young Glenmuir players are the future of the club both on and off the field, and we have seen first hand what great work soccer in the community does and how much fun the kids have at the Glenmuir FC Academy,” said Mark.

Both clubs are looking forward to working with each other and their will be further announcements and publications in the near future through the club website www.glenmuirfc.com and Glenmuir Facebook and Twitter feeds.
