GSD announce new pre-school course

Geraldine’s School of Drama have announced a new pre-school course.

GSD’s Geraldine Kieran said demand had led to the idea.

“Following a very successful term in the Holy Family Crèche; I decided that starting in earnest a course designed for pre-school children or young children who have just started primary school is ideal,” she said.

This course focuses on fun drama activities to help develop imagination, social skills and self-confidence. Through stories and short rhymes very young children will develop clear speech and improve their communication skills. Starting drama at an early age broadens children’s imagination, stimulates their senses and helps improve or correct speech issues early on. The course focuses on all of these areas but the key focus is fun and the development of positive social skills.

The course is ideal for children who are in pre-school or just starting school as an after school or weekend activity. The class itself will run for 45 minutes.

Geraldine said: “This is an ideal amount of time for this age group to be engaged and involved. Over the term GSD will introduce set themes which will encourage learning and positive social interaction. Drama Bunnies is ideal for children who are shy, struggling with social skills or require a broader area to expand their imagination and creativity.”

GSD announce new autumn schedule with open day this Saturday

GSD School of Drama have announced their new autumn timetable with the first of two open days taking place this Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

The school, which is based in Creative Spark in Muirhevnamor, offers a wide range of courses to suit children of all ages. These courses include speech and drama, creative drama and elocution plus its new tots drama for pre-schoolers.

The school is looking forward to a dramatic year of performance workshops, radio dramas and theatre productions.

GSD also ofers courses for adults in effective communication, public speaking and elocution. ‘Eloquence’ – the adult side of the school – offers people the opportunity to hone their skills, build self-confidence and keep themselves on track.

The school is managed by Geraldine Kieran, an experienced performer, drama facilitator and playwrite. Geraldine trained with the Leinster School of Music and Drama, Trinity Guild Hall and holds a BA in Applied Cultural Studies. Miss Kieran has standard first aid training, is Garda vetted and GSD studios is a safe space for children where they can grow and learn.

Geraldine said: “I’m delighted with how the school is developing. We finally have plenty of courses of offer potential students and parents. The pre-school course means kids can start early and develop core skills in performance. In addition to this our off shot projects are in the early stages of development which will be a wonderful opportunity for attending senior students.

All courses will be starting from Tuesday September 7^th, while GSD also holds courses in surrounding areas such as Philipstown and Cooley.

Geraldine’s School of Speech and Drama to host summer workshops in Blackrock

Geraldine’s School of Speech and Drama will be hosting two summer workshops in Blackrock Community Centre this summer.

Featuring creative drama, mime, improvisation, creative writing and fun, the workshops promise five days of creative freedom in a fantastic space.

The first workshop takes place from Monday July 7^th to Friday July 11^th. The morning session for 5-8 year olds runs from 10am to 1pm, with the afternoon session from 2pm to 5pm for those aged 9-plus.

The theme for the first workshop will be ‘From Page to Stage: Creating a small theatre show’.

The second workshop will then take place from July 28^th to August 1^st. Once again the morning session for 5-8 year olds runs from 10am to 1pm, with the afternoon session from 2pm to 5pm for those aged 9-plus.

The theme for the second workshop will be ‘Express Yourself – creative drama, movement, improvisation and dance’.

The cost of the course is just €60 per child, with a €20 deposit required to secure your place.

Geraldine’s School of Speech & Drama to host stage performance workshop

Geraldine’s School of Speech & Drama will host a stage performance workshop later this month on Thursday April 24th and Friday April 25th.

The workshop will be held in the Louth Creative Community Hub in Muirhevnamor and will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm each day.

Speech and Drama stage camp to be held next month

Geraldine’s School of Speech and Drama will be hosting Stage Camp Summer Performance Workshops from July 22nd to 26th in the Louth Creative Community Hub in Muirhevnamor.

The workshops run from 10am to 1pm each day and is suitable for children between the ages of seven and 12.
