Gardaí investigating Garrybawn break-in

Gardaí are investigating an incident in the Garrybawn estate, off Tom Bellew Avenue, in the early hours of Saturday morning in which a man was confronted with an imitation pistol by a masked man who had broken into his home.

The incident occurred around 4.45am when the 50 year old man was woken up by his dog barking downstairs.

When he went to investigate he discovered his front door had open and a man in his kitchen carrying an imitation firearm.

A struggled ensued with the intruder fleeing the scene empty-handed.

He is described as being between 5ft 6in and 5ft 7in tall, aged between 18 and 20 with short black hair and a Dublin accent. He was wearing a dark padded jacket and black woollen gloves.

It is believed he may have suffered a cut to his head during the incident.

Number of break-ins in Dundalk over the Bank Holiday weekend

There were a number of break-ins to houses throughout Dundalk at the weekend with up to a dozen being reported on Saturday night.

Areas targeted included Ashbrook, Woodbury Gardens, Garrybawn and Lennonstown Manor.

It is also reported that one of the homes broken into had been burgled for the third time.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to contact Dundalk Gardaí while neighbours are encouraged to keep an eye out for suspicious activity in their area.

Meanwhile, one person was hospitalised with minor injuries following a road traffic accident involving four vehicles at the Xerox junction on Sunday night.
