Boylesports buy Tom Flood Bookmakers

Boyle-SportsDundalk-based bookmakers, Boylesports, has bought Tom Flood Bookmakers, which has seven outlets in the Dublin region.

All seven shops will be retained and immediately rebranded as part of a €3 million investment, with each of the shops to be renovated and fitted out with Boylesports’ screen system.

The purchase brings the number of shops in the Boylesports chain to 192.

Chief executive John Boyle said: “We are delighted to welcome the 39 staff of Tom Flood Bookmakers to Boylesports.

“As for Tom Flood customers, they can expect that their local betting shop will now offer a greater range of betting opportunities with the same great service while enjoying the best facilities within the betting industry.”

Dundalk man named Irish Betting Shop Manager of the Year

Ken Smartt of Paddy Power in Dundalk has been named Irish Betting Shop Manager of the Year.

The prestigious award was handed out just 24 hours after Ken was nominated for the prestigious Betting Shop Manager of the Year award for Ireland and the UK.

Ken is one of two nominees from Paddy Power, along with Paddy Griffiths from Southampton.

The Racing Post/SIS-sponsored competition is open to entries from independent managers in Britain and Ireland with 84 managers nominated in eight regions before being whittled down. Ken now advances following his success as the best betting shop manager in Ireland.

Winning lotto ticket sold in Dundalk

Dundalk’s lotto luck has continued with the ticket for last night’s €2 million jackpot having been bought locally on Friday.

The winning ticket was sold in Central News in Clanbrassil Street.

The winning numbers are: 9, 12, 18, 19, 31, 44 and the bonus number is 1.

The winning ticket is a €32 advance play ticket with Lotto Plus.

Dual race day in Dundalk on August 18th

The Bar One Racing ‘Dual Race Day’ will take place at Dundalk Stadium’s all-weather horse and greyhound track on Sunday 18th August 2013.

This highly anticipated annual event has traditionally been set on the 15th August but in recent years has been moved to Sundays to create a family atmosphere.

Horse racing will commence at 2.10pm with a 7 race card. Greyhound racing will take place in the evening at 7:30pm with the annual Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup Final.

The Bar One Dual Race Day promises to be a great day for young and old alike. With a whole host of kids activities throughout the day, it will ensure that the youngsters are just as entertained as the adults.

Dundalk FC to host Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament

The Dundalk FC Supporters’ Club have announced a Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament for Sunday September 1st at 5.30pm in the Enda McGuill Suite at Oriel Park.

There will be guaranteed prize money on the night of €2,500. Tickets for the event are €50 and refreshments will be served on the night.

First team players Richie Towell, John Mountney and Patrick Hoban have already been confirmed to play and if you knock one of the players out you get a spot prize.
