Dundalk paired with Galway FC in FAI Cup third round

DundalkCrest2010Dundalk have been drawn at home to Galway FC in the third round of the FAI Cup.

The match will see the Tribesman’s manager Tommy Dunne return to Oriel Park, having made 37 appearances for the Lilywhites between 1991 and 1993.

The Connacht outfit are currently in third place in the First Division and have a number of ex-Dundalk players in their side including goalkeeper Ger Hanley, midfielder Gary Shanahan and striker Vinny Faherty.

Dundalk booked their place in the third round with a 3-0 victory over holders Sligo Rovers back in May.

Their clash with Galway will see top scorer Pat Hoban line-out against his home town club. Club captain Stephen O’Donnell is a former Galway player but will miss the game as he continues his rehabilitation from a cruciate knee ligament injury sustained on Good Friday.

The game will also see another Galway native, Daryl Horgan, go head to head with his brother Colm, who plays for the Tribesmen. Not only will the Horgan brothers be on the same pitch but they are also in line to directly face each other with Daryl having played most of the season for Dundalk on the left wing, while Colm has filled the right back role for Galway.

The game will be held on the weekend of August 22nd-24th.

Dundalk to learn their FAI Cup opponents today

DundalkCrest2010Fresh from their exploits in Croatia last night, Dundalk will be returning to Ireland at lunchtime today to begin preparations for Sunday’s match against Bray Wanderers – the last side to beat them in the league back at the end of April.

While they are in the air, they are likely to be paired with their opponents for the next round of the Ford FAI Cup, with the draw for the next round due to take place today.

The Lilywhites have already beaten holders Sligo Rovers 3-0 in the competition this season and will be looking to mount a cup challenge to go all the way to the final for the first time since 2002.

Meanwhile, Setanta Sports have confirmed that the top of the table clash between Dundalk and Cork City in Turner’s Cross on Friday August 1st will be screened live on the channel. Kick-off on the night is at 8pm.
