Students from St Louis Secondary School in Dundalk have launched a new campaign encouraging people to reduce their food miles.

The students from the school insist that transporting food around the world is damaging to the environment and say that if everyone tries to reduce their food miles then it will help your carbon footprint.

The campaign is largely being run through social media channels, with their Facebook page giving tips on what products are in season, as well as helpful recipes to help you reduce your food miles.

The school entered the One Good Idea Project from the SEAI under the tutelage of Ms Selena Reynolds and as part of the project have been encouraging people to buy fresh and buy local.

You can find out more about the campaign here.

The River Café in the Marshes Shopping Centre have opened up a new terraced seating area outside the centre at the Ramparts Road entrance.

The seating will allow customers to enjoy their food and drink outside the centre as they watch the world go by.

This is the first outdoor seating made available in the centre since the closure of O’Brien Sandwich Bar a number of years back.

Here’s hoping the good weather returns soon so we can all avail of the new facility!

Plenty of people will be heading out for tomorrow night’s Champion’s League final but local disco bar Eden will be offering something different for the game as they will be hosting a BBQ for it on their rooftop beer garden.

An excellent deal is going as well, whereby you can get a beer and burger or hot dog for just €6. This is the first in a number of summer BBQs that Eden has lined up.

Thanks to Bronagh Murphy for letting us know that the Applegreen service stations on the M1 motorway currently have a large stock of Tayto chocolate bars in stock.

There has been a big demand for them in the area since they were launched recently but up until now they have been hard for people to come by.
