A large number of solders from Dundalk will fly out to Lebanon at the end of next month as part of a United Nations peacekeeping force.

The Irish are currently operating alongside the Finns in a joint battalion there but the next group to travel will consist of only 181 personnel, compared with the current detachment of 330 troops.

About half of the troops set for the Lebanon are from Cathal Brugha barracks in Dublin, with the rest mainly from Aiken Barracks in Dundalk.
