Wild Goose Lodge trailer unveiled at Ploughing Championships

The trailer for the Co Louth-based movie Wild Goose Lodge was unveiled at the National Ploughing Championships earlier this week.

The film is based on the true story of an incident in Reaghstown almost 200 years ago. Back in 1816 a group of armed men assembled in a church at midnight and swore a blood oath to avenge the deaths of three of their fellow Ribbonmen.

An arson and murder attack on Wild Goose Lodge that October led to eight occupants being killed, including an infant aged just five months. Eighteen men were executed for the crime, many of them innocent.

Based on a play by Paul Macardle, the film includes a number of locals as extras with Dundalk-based schoolteacher Paul McGee, of St Joseph’s NS in Muirhevnamor, prominent in the trailer.

Starring John Connors (Patrick from Love/Hate), Finbar Furey (singer from The Fureys), Joe Rooney (Fr Damo in Father Ted) and Dave Duffy (Leo Dowling in Fair City), the film is due for release next year.

Furey to perform at the Big Top in Carlingford this Saturday

The legendary Finbar Furey will be performing at the Big Top in Carlingford this Saturday night at 6pm.

Furey, whose hits include Sweet Sixteen and The Green Fields of France, is one of a number of top acts lined up to play the venue at Carlingford Marina this summer.

The Big Top is a 500 person capacity circus tent that sits in the courtyard of the marina complex and will be home to a whole host of concerts and events throughout the summer months.

Others set to perform at the Big Top in the coming months include Paul Brady, Sharon Shannon and Kíla.

Top Irish acts including Paul Brady, Finbar Furey and Sharon Shannon will be amongst those performing at the Big Top in Carlingford this summer.

The first few acts set to perform at the tent at Carlingford Marina were revealed this morning with Kila and The Dublin Gospel Choir also on the bill with more to be announced.

There will also be silent discos at the venue.
