Pat McDonnell will be in the comedy tent on Saturday
Six local acts will be performing at this weekend’s Electric Picnic Festival in Stradbally, Co Laois.
Amongst those set to take the stage over the course of the weekend are bands RichardRichard, The Beached Whales, Elephant and Third Smoke, as well as DJ collective Evil Presidentes.
The Beached Whales are first to perform this evening on The Salt Dog Stage from 5pm to 5.50pm. On Saturday Dromiskin-based comedian Pat McDonnell will also be in the comedy tent from 4.35pm to 5pm.
Be sure to check the locals out if you’re at the Picnic this weekend.
Dundalk band Third Smoke recently released the video for their latest single ‘Ms Summer Breeze’.
The group, who will perform at the Electric Picnic Festival in Stradbally, Co Laois next month, are set to release an EP this November.
‘Ms Summer Breeze’ is a stepping stone to the EP release with the video having received good reviews since its release. The stop motion masterpiece delves into the inner psyche of the working man. Trapped in the minutia of corporate life, the protagonist is engrossed by a constant search of escapism.
In May, ‘Ms Summer Breeze’ won the Emerging Talent Competition on RTÉ Radio 1’s The John Murray Show, having been chosen from a list of thousands of entrants.
This win awarded the band with a national television performance on RTÉ’s The Saturday Night Show. The song has received raving reviews, being described as “a stomping pop tune performed with passion and style that marks them out as yet another homegrown name to keep an eye on”.
The video for ‘Ms Summer Breeze’ comes amidst a busy summer of live dates for Third Smoke. Having already wowed the patrons of Longitude and Le Cheile Arts and Music Festival, the band are billed to appear at Electric Picnic next month. They also made their Olympia Theatre debut, supporting Ham Sandwich, and played with Glen Hansard and Lisa O’Neill at a sold out Spirit Store gig.
Local singer songwriter Finnian Kelleher will be performing in the Market Bar in Dundalk on Friday October 25th at 9pm with his band.
The St Mary’s Road man, who played at Electric Picnic earlier this year, is currently working on his debut album.
A week prior to that on Saturday October 19th, Finnian will also be performing at The Spirit Store, where he will be providing support for Stewart Agnew.
The line-up for the tenth Electric Picnic was announced today and local musician Sinead McNally will be a part of it.
The weekend festival, which will once again be held in Stradbally, Co Laois, from August 30th to September 1st will be headlined by The Arctic Monkeys, Bjork and Fatboy Slim.
However, Knockbridge woman Sinead will also be performing over the course of the weekend as part of Conor Quinn’s band.
People may remember Conor from last year’s Voice of Ireland. He recently recruited Sinead – who is herself a talented singer/songwriter – to play keyboards in his band and she is currently working on the recording of his forthcoming EP Golden Kids.
