Dundalk dismiss reports that Ed Sheeran is to attend tonight’s Champions League game

20130329-ed-sheeran-624x420-1364587251Dundalk FC have denied reports that Ed Sheeran is set to attend tonight’s Champions League clash against BATE Borisov at Oriel Park.

LMFM reporter Gerry Malone broke the news yesterday that the ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer was set to attend the sell out game in the build-up to his sold out shows at Croke Park this Friday and Saturday night.

However, while not ruling it out entirely, the club insist it is most unlikely.

Reports originated after the club was contacted by Sheeran’s tour manager for tickets but it is not believed that he will be attending.

Meanwhile, it has still not been officially confirmed whether tonight’s game will be shown live on the big screen at the Market Square.

This was posted on what turned out to be an unofficial Dundalk FC Instagram account yesterday and reported in various quarters, including on Talk of the Town, but general manager of Dundalk FC Martin Connolly said the club have not confirmed the matter.

“We did not confirm that the match is to be shown on the screen at the Square as this has got nothing to do with us. I was interviewed on Dundalk FM on Saturday and someone sent a text in to say that it was being shown and I said that was great.”

Tonight’s game is live on RTÉ Two with a kick-off of 7.45pm.

Music sensation Ed Sheeran is understood to be attending tomorrow night’s Champions League clash between Dundalk and BATE Borisov at Oriel Park.

The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ singer is in Ireland ahead of his sold out shows at Croke Park this weekend.

News of Sheeran’s possible attendance of the game was broken by LMFM reporter Gerry Malone this afternoon.

Kick-off at Oriel Park is at 7.45pm and, like Sheeran’s gigs, it is sold out.

Here’s hoping that Dundalk are his ‘A Team’ on the night.

Alan makes a proposal with a difference to girlfriend Amanda

Dundalk man Alan Foran made a proposal with a difference on Saturday after popping the question to his girlfriend Amanda Lavery at the Scotch Hall Shopping Centre in Drogheda.

Alan, well known as the lead singer with local band Electric Avenue, arranged for a flash mob to perform in the shopping centre. After watching dancers perform to Ed Sheeran’s track ‘Thinking Out Loud’, the flash mob then appeared with Alan asking for Amanda’s hand in marriage during Bruno Mars’ song ‘Marry You’.

To Amanda’s surprise, her family then appeared to share the special moment with them as her favourite track, Celine Dion’s ‘Oh Holy Night’ played.

Alan bought the ring three weeks ago and wanted to do something special for his engagement so he called in his band mates from Electric Avenue, the Drogheda brass and youth band, along with the wonderful dancers from Btown dance studios to help make it a memorable proposal.

Well done to Alan on a unique proposal and may the couple have a lifetime of happiness together.
