The first annual Mary Bishop Memorial fundraising table quiz will take place on Friday February 21st at 9pm in The Lisdoo.

The event will be held in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital and all support is welcoemd.

A table of four costs just €20, which includes a raffle, prizes and a disco afterwards by DJ Ollie B.

Mary, from the Mill Road, passed away last August aged just 53. As well as running her own business in Clanbrassil Street for a number of years, she also worked for a long time in Eamon Bishop’s Spar shop on the Newry Road.

It was decided to donate the proceeds from the table quiz to Temple Street because of Mary’s deep love of children.

For further details or to make a donation call Eamon on 042-9338312.

Christmas has come early for a lucky local couple after they scooped a six-figure sum in the Euromillions on Tuesday.

Their prize for matching five numbers in the draw was €105,633, with the lucky €6 ticket bought in Eamon Bishop & Son’s Spar shop on the Newry Road.

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, told the National Lottery they were delighted with the win.

“We’re absolutely thrilled and still can’t believe we are sitting here! We checked the numbers over and over on many different mobile devices just to make sure it was correct!

“It’s a nice early Christmas present!,” they said smiling.

When asked what they plan to do with their winnings, the couple said: “Firstly, we’ll look after the very important Santa presents and then possibly go on a nice family holiday.”
