Dundalk 10k to take place on April 22nd

We will all probably overindulge in some way over the Christmas period but if you want to motivate yourself to get fit in the New Year then what better way than to get into training for the Dundalk 10k.

Organisers have confirmed that the annual road race will be officially launching on January 14^th, with the event pencilled in for Wednesday April 22^nd.

Earlier this year Dundalk IT were the major sponsor and organiser of the race, which started and ended on the campus.

Darragh Greene retained the title in a time of 31.10, pipping Gary O’Hanlon and Brian McCloskey to the title.

Donna Evans was the first woman home, with 695 people in total taking part.

Further details on how to register for the 2015 event will be published in the New Year.

Dunleer AC to host four mile road race this Sunday

Dunleer AC will host their four mile road race this Sunday from 3pm.

Up for grabs will be the Sean Carrie and Ollie Brennan Memorial Cups, currently held by 2013 mens champion Mark Hoey (19.55) and 2013 ladies champion Fiona Roche (22.17).

David Carries away a Pride of Ireland award

Local athlete David Carrie was named as one of the Irish Daily Mirror’s Pride of Ireland award winners at a ceremony in Dublin last night.

The Dunleer AC clubman picked up the Sporting Hero award after helping 120 people in the Mid-Louth village get into marathon training.

Well done David on a fantastic achievement.

Greene retains Dundalk 10k title

Local athlete Darragh Green retained his Dundalk 10k title by winning the race in a time of 31.10 last night.

The Dunleer AC athlete shaved more than two minutes of his winning time from 12 months ago as he pipped Kilkerley man Gary O’Hanlon to first place.

O’Hanlon finished in a time of 32.02, with last year’s runner-up Brian McCloskey of North East Runners in third in a time of 33.23.

Once again the first female home was Donna Evans, who was 32nd overall in a time of 40.35. Donna was also the first female finisher 12 months ago and has now won the race on numerous occasions.

In total 695 people took part in the race, which this year started from Dundalk IT, with over 100 volunteers cheering them on despite the heavy rain.

Dunleer AC’s Darragh Greene claimed yesterday’s Mint Dundalk 10k run with a time of 00:33:26, pipping Brian McCluskey of North East Runners by seven seconds.

The pair were a full two minutes ahead of third place finisher, Paul Smith, who had a time of 00:35:33.

Donna Evans was the first female home in 00:38:07, followed by Susan McDonnell and Louise Kierans.

In total 469 runners took part in the event, which raised money for the Irish Cancer Society.

Meanwhile, Kilkerley man Gary O’Hanlon – who had won the half marathon in Dundalk for the two years previously – followed up his Limerick Marathon success from a week ago by clinching the Kildare Marathon in a time of 2 hours 29 minutes – four minutes faster than his run a week earlier.
